The Skanda Purana & other ancient texts identify Adi Kailash (Chhota Kailash) as the original, primordial abode of Lord Shiva, where he meditated & resided before moving to Mount Kailash in Tibet. The name “Adi” signifies “first” indicating it is the earliest earthly dwelling of Shiva, frequently mentioned in the Skanda Purana, Shiva Purana, & Mahabharata.
At the foot of Adi Kailash lies Gauri Kund, a holy water body associated with Goddess Parvati. Its presence adds tenderness and depth to the pilgrimage, making this not only a Shiva journey, but also a journey of Shakti.
